Submitter said the bug disappeared after installation of the -dbg libs, and
did not reappear after their removal.
Other persons said they did not have the bug on PPC, but were running
G4 (the submitter has G3).

Upon Loïc's instructions, I installed -dbg versions of libc6, glib2.0 and
libgstreamer0.10. As soon as I had done that, neither gdb or valgrind
could find any error left. Gnome-settings-daemon suddenly worked as
expected and so did building gnome-media. I'm completely puzzled as to
what happened.

Could you please try "LC_ALL=C gst-inspect-0.10" (i.e. non fi_FI
locale)? Does it crash as well?

Does it crash with just "gst-inspect-0.10"? Could you install
libgstreamer0.10-0-dbg and produce a nicer backtrace?
Thanks,
