Isn't this caused by the fact, that unrar only supports rar archives
1.x, but no 2.x and 3.x?
Please test this and provide more information about the archive you're
trying to unpack.

Hello,
since there is no rar-nonfree package for amd64, I need to use unrar.
However, xarchiver refuses to open rar archives even in read-only mode,
telling that the archive format is not supported.
