You're right, it looks like that code which was deleted in 3.7.0
snuck back in to 3.8.0. I wonder why I haven't noticed because I'm
still using ddclient on a Debian system and it is now 3.8.0.
It looks like a better patch is in ddclient 3.8.1.

This bug still exists in version 3.8.0. The solution proposed over six
years ago by Dave Dykstra, commenting out the buggy lines, works fine.
Here is a patch that does simply that.
