One thing that I should have seen much earlier is that it also
has an indirect dependency

do you by chance have zlib1g-dev installed on you
I've been trying to reproduce this, but I can't. Everything

Package: dovecot
Followup-For: Bug #334180
To join the crowd with the previous poster, one thing must be cleared:
dovecot-common/testing uptodate 1.0.alpha3-2.0.1
dovecot-imapd/testing uptodate 1.0.alpha3-2.0.1
Going back to "testing" won't help, because it's the testing where
this is broke
