Hey,
I can confirm that upgrading helps. I've built a 251 package from the
sources in sid, rebooted the server (just to make sure the old libs
aren't in use anymore) and there's been no hanging CRON process for a
week now (before each and every child process would hang around as
CRON).

I built my own package for libnss-ldap which seems to fix this bug for
me. I built 250, but the changelog for 249 says:
* fix for BUG#255: deadlock in initgroups
