failure to use the framebuffer on a IBM GXT2000 board.

The IBM GXT2000p is supported on 2.6 as OF FB.
The penguin smiles...
But xfree86 doesn't handle the adapter correctly,
it detects only 4096kb of memory (should be 32M, i guess).
Setting up as 1280x1024 8bit gives at least no failure in
startx,
