It also works for the user for me:

Can you reproduce that bug with the latest version in sid (2.18.3-1)?

If I request a db name like "U04-bugz-FOO", the db gets created as
"`U04-bugz-FOO`", which in addition to being not what we expect, is
invalid enough to get in the way of our mysql replication process.
