I believe this can be closed. It worked for me after setting
"--bootloaders syslinux,grub-efi".

Dear Maintainer,
When using '--bootloaders grub-efi', I'm unable to boot any Mac with what live-
build produces, presumably because it doesn't use the removable media path(?).
