I have the same problem, which causes a broken display when eg, deleting
messages. I can confirm that setting TERM=xterm-p370 avoids the problem.

I see that this option is not documented, so I suppose that it has been
deprecated over the years.
But even with ts_enabled=yes (the default) the terminal status bar is
not being updated
