Sorry, there was a bug in my script. All occurrences of SPLASH should be
renamed to SPLASHBIN. Otherwise it would interfere with the SPLASH
variable in /etc/defaults/bootsplash.

The last point is indeed a good reason for leaving the script in
/etc/init.d . But i experienced problems in case of using several
runlevel editors (bum, ksysv, sysv-rc-config etc )to configure
runlevels. Since they all list all scripts within /etc/init.d, it is

the bug report, i had installed xorg 6.9 and a version of xlibs
which didn't contain the layout and so i created my own one.
Since xorg 7.0 (and with it xkb-data) there is a working layout,

Since i have removed apt-index-watcher and debtags, synaptic doesn't
crash anymore.

Here is what i have to do to make synaptic crashing:
1. update package list
2. installing pstoedit and prelink (plus dependencies)
3. installing one package
running synaptic || echo "bug" in the shell resluts in bug, so the
return value is not 0.
I have reproduced the same behaviour several time
So problem disappeared after a reboot. Anyway this is an
unexpected behavior. If i switch the mouse cursor, i
would expect that this will apply for all applications.
