I've just upgraded my 2.6.12 debian-build kernel to 2.6.16-1-686, and
the bug no longer occurs. I now understand why my other computer,
working under Debian Etch with a 2.6.15 kernel wasn't experiencing the
bug... Seems to be a 2.6.12 only bug, at least it is corrected under
2.6.15 and 2.6.16.
This issue is a real problem, and it is really stupid becauses it breaks all
GNOME's efforts to be user friendly. A little fix would help a lot, letting in
curent state would be dramatic.
The question is : why doesn't nautilus show the directory in which it tells
that the disk is mounted ?! Wh

I noticed a strange but maybe interesting fact: if you let
gnome-volume-manger mount the cd-rom automatically, computer:// and
volume-applet won't see it is mounted. Same if you disable
gnome-volume-manager and you click on the cd-rom icon in computer:// or
in the mounting-applet.
