In general, password confirmation is useful for detecting typos which
would otherwise lead to creation of archives that cannot be opened
because the password is wrong.
I understand your reluctance to diverge from the original 7-Zip code
which could make the maintanence

When trying to list, extract or test an archive with encrypted data,
7-Zip asks for password but it doesn't hide it while it is being
entered.
Solution:
Nothing should be printed when a user enters password.

It looks like the official 7-Zip Linux version in Debian has no support
for RAR archives. p7zip 16.02 has some basic RAR support (v2) and
additional RAR module for v5 is provided by the p7zip-rar package.
