No errors show up in the syslog (or dmesg) after I run those commands.
I tried reproducing these errors on another laptop and I do get
similar messages/errors. This laptop is a one-year-old core 2 duo
(running unstable) and I get the following after inserting a DVD:
[63135.587360] hda: command err
Turns out it didn't like my nm-applet being disconnected (I was connected
via Ethernet and a dhclient from the command-line). Seems fine now.
