I couldn't find the pluginappletviewer.
I checked my system with debsums and there was a problem with
openjdk-6-jre. I reinstalled it and the test applet works now.
Some other applets, for example
http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/java/demos/index_applet_text_and_links.html
doesn't work.
