The last version currently in unstable, 20.3.3-1, solves the problem at last.

versions since 20.0.7-1 I get at least the
(deteriorated) welcome screen.
Sadly the error log generated from the game is only useable by the game devs...

I only tried the 20.1.8 release from sid yet. No change, the problem has still
to be fixed. I will try from experimental then.
