i have checked it with my gcc (4.4.5-8) and find no problem.
stddef.h is included from cstddef - bits/stl_algobase.h - algorithm - btree.h
you using other compiler/STL maybe ?

i find what double `Esc` press can help to thaw FB.
maybe conf files can help?
