Hi,
Having recently marked as "automatically installed" a whole bunch of
packages, so not to have to manually sort which should be removed
without harm, from which whose removal would really bring har
Hi Arto,
What you say seems understandable and reasonable to me. Thanks for the
hints about the recommendations of the LSB ;)
Just one point, certainly a tad out off topic (but as we already
discussed about the client...) : as the "push" part of the agent mode
is supposed to now happen through tr
Hi Arto,
Tested your patch, and all pretty seems a lot better. No more
multi-spawning of the daemon, no more PID file chainsawing... seems
good.
Just two things I noted :
- first thing in the "stop" stanza : the 15 seconds timeout to switch
from SIGTERM to SIGKILL may be a bit long, especially u

Hi,
As far as I could understand, every distribution have problems with udev in
containers.
For instance, on the OpenVZ wiki, it is recommended for Gentoo
(http://wiki.openvz.org/Gentoo_template_creation#Set_up_udev ) to make udev
handle devices as static.
For CentOS 5 ( http://community.live

Howdy,
As libsane-extras maintainer, Julien Blache, told me, there seems to be
plans for dropping makedev and such support starting from Debian
Squeeze, in exclusive favor of udev.
Problem is udev will not install i
Thanks Julien.
Sorry to have been so impatient : I now use the package from Sid, and it works
perfectly in my case.
Hope nothing will block it from entering into Lenny, but it already is in
freeze exception, so it should be OK.
Regards.

Hi,
Thanks for caring about this wishlist. First, I have attached two files to
this mail : "scanbuttond-init" and "scanbuttond-default", which are the ones
I crafted.
"scannbuttond-init" is the "/etc/init.d" script I use to
launch "scanbuttond" ; I basically tweaked the one from "saned", just

Could it be possible to add an initscript to this package ? You indicate in
the Readme that a udev rule should be the way to launch scanbuttond, but I
guess it depends on cases.

Hi again, Julien,
I saw the fix coming to amd64, with ".11" revision of libsane-extras, but, it
is not in i386 target yet (as well as s390, but this does not concern me)...
... and this is the architecture I use on the machine where I need it, and for
which this bug was initially filled.
Sorry
Thanks a lot, Julien : that was real fast !
I will give this a try as soon as I can, to see if, for now, "makedev" could
do the trick.
To clarify what I said, it is not that I do not want to use "udev" : it is
that there are a whole lot of problems between this one and OpenVZ, problems

Hi !
There are actually cases where "udev" really cannot be used (not even
installed), even on a Debian system. Trying to install "libsane" on an OpenVZ
container (where udev really does not work well : it cannot even be
installed, leaving dpkg database in a messy state... and according to Open
