Dear Maintainer,
If you have a preferences file where all the lines are commented out apt throws
out the following error when trying to do use it.

It is a regression, I recently noticed this issue after an update some time
back (maybe a month or two) when I my mouse wasnt being detected in the KDE
automatic touchpad control, in the past my mouse was detected and I was able
to have my touchpad disabled whenever my mouse was plugged in, but now
