but the Debian LyX package is barely maintained at the moment.
I understand your frustration and for your usecase LyX might
be broken which is a grave issue, but I think LyX in general

Just to add a few more information regarding packages that will
FTBFS once xchat got removed:
- xchat-guile -> maintainer requested removal in #811079
- xchat-xsys -> hexchat-plugins contains its own xsys plugin so this one
got a proper replacement and can be removed as well

please remove xchat. It's unmaintained upstream for 5+ years. The last
uploads to the Debian archive were NMUs, the last one over a year ago
by myself.
hexchat, an active fork, is available and has been released with jessie.
