The bug seems to be fixed in upstream version 6.2.5. As a temporary
workaround one can replace the third command (which was based on the
online documentation for -draw) with
$ convert yellow.png -draw "image SrcOver 0,0 0,0 red.png" total.png
to achieve the correct behavior.
