Another two years later:
The error still exists at my claws-mail Ver. 3.9.3 64 bit. That's pretty poor.
Think it's time to change my mail client if an error stays unfixed for five
years :(
I wonder that nobody else encountered that problem.

As the fam maintainer (or is it the debian package maintainer? I don't now) did
not fix that bug
for several years now I gave up waiting for a solution.
I am not a linux guru at all and this solution may be kinda home-style cooking,
but for me it works.
