Having the same symptoms when printing PDF which filename's contains
czech non-latin characters.
Fix inside sixext.py works for me:

I had similar issue. When I copied the missing file from the hplip*zip source
into /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat my printer had started to work.

After some time the keyboard (sometimes even the mouse) are disconencted.
(segfault in bluetoothd)
The keyboard is mostly with this issue unusable.

From further weekend investigations I found out, that this issue is
strongly related to selinux.
The previous testing were executed in "Permissive" mode and with boolean
