After pressing reload synaptic waited very long time (10 minutes?),
before reporting failure. Now it fails imedietly, because it gets
broken Packages.bz2 and one broken Sources.bz2 file.

A few months ago kde-essential.menu disappeared from my laptop.
kcontrol didn't not work. Updating several times and
dpkg -i kdebase-data_3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6_all.deb did not bring it back.
dpkg --force-confmiss -i kdebase-data_3.5.5a.dfsg.1-6_all.deb
did solve the problem:

Following line in xorg.conf caused crash:

After I removed it, X works normally!
