If you want to run a configuration that is not supported by a developer,
then no, I would not expect them to help you.
Free software does not entitle you to free help, nor does it entitle you to
demand others do or don't do things a particular way.
The point that is being made is not "you can't run software with shell
scripts if you want", it's "don't expect developers to write or maintain
them for you".
