Problem solved. I had stale libXmu in /usr/X11R6/lib, not owned by any package.
After removing it (and other stale libs there) I got a running Xterm with this

Package: xterm
Version: 210-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
After a recent upgrade, xterm and other X apps (like xmessage) crash on
startup with xterm: symbol lookup error: xterm: undefined symbol:
_XA_UTF8_STRING. I think it's not a bug in xterm, but in some X libraries
Package: x11vnc
Version: 0.7.1-3
Severity: important
After upgrade to x11vnc 0.7.1-3, x11vnc session hangs when resizing a
window, if I use WindowMaker as my window manager (gnome is fine).
Subsequent VNC session just times out, and I have to restart X.
This is against both VNC4 and TightVNC.
