what exactly need to be checked?
will checking if /lib/libc.so.6 exists and if it is checking for grep
GLIBC_2.3.3 /lib/libc.so.6*
be good enough?

The patch I sent you is against the source I got from apt-get source gdm for

The problem still happen in that version and after building it with the
patch I sent you the problem disappear.
