This package's rules file explicitly enables Altivec on powerpc, but
many powerpc machines use G3 or earlier processo
I just verified that my proposed change to the MPILIBS definition
causes fftw3_mpi to be linked correctly on i386, in case we decide to
go that way.

You're right that the libraries are mis-linked, but in the particular
case of fftw MPI, this isn't very serious. Programs using mpi should

Were you able to look into restoring some of the lost period of snapshots
for debian-ports? I've found a Debian derivative, MintPPC, that currently
seems to only be usable with snapshots from between Sep 2023 and Jan 2024,
so it would be very helpful.

Debian kernels 6.9 and higher fail to boot on most PowerPC 32-bit systems.

with no reported bugs. This version is quite new, updated in 2023. What do
