I've been working on this bug for the last 3 days and think I've
isolated and corrected the problem. Intel provides special (open source)
linux drivers for their video cards at this url:

Is this still an active thread? What progress is there at the moment? I
have the same problem with my laptop currently. Losing what you have
open and needing to reboot is painful.
