vers strange. for some reason
a) the device node is not generic-mmc compatible - hence the error
(other software may work around that)
or
b) we have 64bit problem ... but i just checked it on an SATA 64bit
linux kernel 2.6.30 (intel icore7) without errors.

where does /dev/cdrom point to? is it the right device?
with serial ata you should look for links to devices like /dev/sr0
you can also try devices with "-c" in the command line tool or by
providing another device to the module.
