This affects me too after I upgraded to Buster.
The Superuser link Antoine Amarilli is giving suggests that timidity is
started at system level, while pulseaudio is started at the user level.
Maybe you could change that behaviour?

I worked-around this by installing mplayer (not mplayer2). This works
for me but as mpv is recommended I'd rather use this.
On command line mplayer also does not play with --noquiet option meaning
that smplayer is giving the one dash -noquiet to mplayer correctly. Of

nethogs doesn't show the correct traffic for transmission-gtk. It only shows
0.2 KB/sec although gnome-system-monitor and Transmission itself show a lot
more. Thus I'm not sure it shows the correct traffic for anything anymore.
