I used the rescue mode of the installer to change the root file system
type to ext4.
I used
#tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/yourfilesystem
That was successful. I could then mount and browse the file system in
rescue mode.
However when I rebooted back into the target system it

A FX trackball stopped working properly recently. Investigation showed
that the info.product displayed by hal had changed from "PS2++ Logitech
Mouse" to "PS2++ Logitech TrackMan".
My guess is that this is because I am running a different kernel (stock
2.6.32-rc6), but I am not sure.
Anyway,
My last report was incorrect in that /dev/hdc was the dvd and /dev/hdd
was the cdrom on the machine from which I reported. So the situation was
worse in that /dev/dvd pointed to the wrong drive.

I have now discovered that even commands like
dd if=/dev/fd0 of=floppy.img
also fail with crc errors. All these things work fine on the old box
under kernel 2.4.37. So it looks as if there is something fundamentally
wrong with low level floppy access. Yet filesystem access is ok which
doesn't

Section 4.3: Preparing Files for USB
Removing the downloaded jigdo and temporary files seems to cure the
problem. But it must still be a bug if a segfault can arise?
I realize that without a gdb session or similar, there really isn't
enough information in the bug report to tie down the problem.
