So I’ve tested with Chromium 116.0.5845.180-1~deb12u1 and it works as expected
on Debian 12.
Note that I also had to explicitly install the chromium-common package:

The package has been uploaded a long time ago and has undergone many
changes since then, but that's not the reason I'm writing this. I would
like you to remove and ignore the package. It doesn't belong in the apt
package repository and I have instead uploaded it to flat
