I found the problem.. it looks like the upstream change that started using
sysfs in preference to usbfs (gnome-pilot/gpilotd/gpilot.d 1.151) neglected
to free the memory it allocated by calling g_file_get_contents(). I've

I have a fix for #294635 (and #279117 which are the same bug).
I don't know why this patch works, or rather I don't understand
how memstat could work at all before. :-)
The "problem" was that lo and hi addresses (and offsets) in
/proc//maps were read and stored in unsig
