I tried a couple of term settings and nothing changed. I tried ansi and
suddenly I am able to type and move around, so I left it there.

I've just installed Cygwin on my Dell PC at work, which has Windows 2000 on
it.
The bash shell works totally fine, typing and arrowing around work as
expected.
However, if I call up either Vim or Emacs, the cursor is frozen in the top
left. It is impossible to move around, and if you type
