Pardon this OT post, but I thought that some of the readers of this
list would be in a position to offer some opinions/options.
The local university (UNK) where I teach part-time is working on a new
course for it's MIS department.
The course focus is the software life cycle. Problem definition,

I've been noticing an issue with cygwin that I find annoying and would
like to fix.
Ive never submitted a cygwin problem report before so this is a first.
My issue now is that I dont actually understand the problem well
enough to give a good report.
Here is what is happening:
I'm using mintty t

Over the last several days I've been reading the thread that
eventually migrated to a discussion of combining rebase and perlrebase
as one.
I've largely ignored it because I have never had a problem with cygwin
that wasn't my fault.
It seems more and more this rebase deal is coming up and I'm sta

Thanks to comments from many on this list I've been working (slowly)
on a autoupdate script for cygwin.
I decided on three separate parts.
1) check setup version
2) check packages to be updated
3) update
My plan was to create a windows batch file that checked if a setup.exe
update was needed and

Today I tried to install cygwin on a work machine that I do not have
permission to admin.
I'm a Math Prof here so I just get to use the machine on my desk.
on my laptop I am the admin so I installed cygwin for all users. No
biggie, only user is me.
I use mintty on the advice of some folks on th
This question is more for my personal curiosity than any problem I'm having.
I've noticed that setup.exe has been updated several times recently
and I'm curious as to whats in setup that would need to be changed.
I understood setup-legacy when we switched from 1.5 to 1.7
As far as I know, setup.

I'm running cygwin 1.7.x and I've been pretty faithful with running
setup again when updates are announced.
I've noticed that setup remembers almost all the answers from the
previous run, so if you are just doing an update you should be able to
just "NEXT" through it.
The very last page of the se
Ive been reading up on this and I think I have a handle on knowing
that I can use comx in cygwin or maybe /dev/ttySx with my usb-serial
adapter.
heres my problem, some of the docs I read are old and they refer to
apps no longer with cygwin setup.
so my question is what apps are available from se
I apologize for the vagueness of this post, but I dont know how to

I have windows 7 professional, and just installed cygwin-1.7 beta.
As far as I can tell, the installation works and all is well with the
cygwin world.
However, the s

Ive used older versions of cygwin so I know what to expect as far as
usage goes, but these questions weren't covered in the FAQ as far as I
could tell.
