Now it configures & builds perfectly for me, out of
the box pulled anew from cvs, with no switches or
options to configure or make.

There goes my incentive to get the cygwin
setup program configurable & buildable
here; I was going to try to write a patch

I didn't
configure: configuring in libgetopt++
configure: running /bin/bash ../cfgaux/configure
--prefix=/usr/local --cache-file=/dev/null
--srcdir=../../libgetopt++
../cfgaux/configure: ../cfgaux/configure: No such file
or directory
configure: error: /bin/bash ../cfgaux/configure failed
for libgetopt++
Pulled cygwin setup source from cvs
(as suggested here:
http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin-apps/setup.html,
I used:
cvs -z3 -d
:pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/cvs/cygwin-apps
co setup
I got the following warning:

The procedure entry point mbrtowc could not be
located in the dynamic link library cygwin1.dll.
I just ran the cygwin setup, and let it pick all the
new current versions, and I got this error in the
post-installs perhaps 50 times (I just kept pushing
