p.s. and I guess your color scheme isn't so awful; typically you never want to
have red and blue of the same intensity next to each other, since the same
cones in your eyes perceive both colors and you can sometimes get the
n use.

since I have Rational tools installed (and they mess with my environment).

I know that a lot of work has happened recently to fix problems which still
existed in 5.6.1, both cross-platform and CygWin specific, so you are better
off with bleadperl than with the so-called stable perl.
