a locale with "" as argument works so. I tried to investigate the error with gdb, but I do not have the cygwin sources. It seems the error is thrown at line 77 in the iostream header file (include/c++/iostream). Might this be a bug or are locales not supported by cygwin? bye, Falk Sticken -- Uns
