gitk --all
Note that I've seen the discussion at
http://cygwin.com/ml/cygwin/2011-08/msg00478.html, but I don't agree
with the conclusion. I never needed an X server before, and gitk
displayed fine up until now. So why should I need to run an X server
now?

on all drives gitk works just fine.
The only case where it fails is in any git repository in this specific
volume (which is mounted on a directory in the C: subtree)
My OS is Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit
It appears to be a bug in TCL...
