Maybe validate needs to check and warn you about this? e.g. maybe if `darcs whatsnew -l` finds anything then it gives a big fat warning and asks if you want to go on anyway. (Only because testing in non-clean trees like this has been a pitfall multiple times in the past.) -Isaac David Waern
