$ etex '\toks0={\input test.texi}\the\toks0' This is e-TeX, Version 3.141592-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) It does not crash with the TeX Live 2015, or current development, versions. Whew. Have enough other critical problems to deal with in TL :(.
