I find this difficult to believe. Are you _SURE_ you're using GNU make,
the same version, on those other platforms?

My makefile includes a recursive "$(MAKE) $(MAKEFLAGS) -f $(MAKEFILE)"
call.
MAKEFLAGS is invalid behind the first call.
MAKE output:
