This problem can be reproduced by a crosscompiler to alpha-unknown-linux-gnu
target. The addend in the object file is already wrong.
Steps to reproduce:
crossassemble with alpha-...-as the assembly source, as at

I couldn't reproduce this with either 2.19.1 or current cvs binutils. Using
2.19.1 gas gives me an object file with just one byte different, the addend in
the reloc you show as being wrong. I get the cor

This works OK with 2.19.51.20090901 snapshot.
The failure was triggered with 2.19.1 release on both x86_64 cross and alpha
native in my case.
