No, I honestly dont know if the change was aiming to remove pressure from the
linker by e.g. ignoring the extra symbols only used by the debugger and so a

Archives are typically used as static libraries, that is, they contain a group
of relocatable object files. I don't think that splitting off debug info to a
separate archive makes sense for relocatable objec
