Sorry, I can't reproduce the crash.
I had to add -fpic to the compile command in order to link without errors.
Either way, gold did not segfault. I've tried with various values for
--thread-count.

You didn't get a "can't find" or "can't open" error message, and
libBrokenLocale.{a,so} isn't listed in the -t output. That can mean one of two
things that I can think of offhand:
