I filed this as a valgrind bug:

but figured it was worth mentioning here, too.
Any version of valgrind (e.g. the latest release, or from svn)
fails with a message like
valgrind: mmap(0x8048000, 90112) failed in UME with error 22 (Invalid
argument).

1) the first "0x" comes from cr16-dis.c:681 in cvs version 1.5
2) the second "0x" comes from objdump.c:911 in cvs version 1.157

thx. That was in deed the issue.
... although it should not be too hard to provide common headers for both 32 &
64bit targets as the only differences are the following lines in bfd.h:
