problem with automake 1.9.6

It seems that I'm not getting lib/Automake/Config.in converted to Config.pm when I build. Could someone explain why not? I'm on Solaris 2.6 with perl 5.005_003. If before I start the compile I goto the lib directory and do a make, then it all works. Making all in m4 make[1]: Entering directory
