Technically VMware is not the OS but the hypervisor that controls other OS's,
such as Windows or Linux. I've implemented BIND 9 on Solaris 10 x86 running on
a VMware with no issues.

dig was added to Solaris 9. It is not native to Solaris 8 or older.

Many thanks to Stephane Bortzmeyer and Jay Ford. Both where spot on with
"allow-query". Now BIND 9.7 resolves to the outside.
