I am a pretty happy pipewire user. I think it takes the role of both
jack and pulseaudio which means you can kinda use it in both kinds of
use cases, at least in theory, haven't tried any form of audio
production but have definitely used jack-like capabilities on a desktop
setting this way.

Once ffmpeg got deleted vlc-nox installed here with no problems. So that
comment from what I can figure is mostly correct except may ought to be
changed to will.

Also chromium is in
for me, after removing .config/vlc, vlc (using cvlc or nvlc) still plays
fine. So does vlc-nox.
As for vlc-nox there is a comment on AUR that says that build might fail if
ffmpeg is already installed on the system

rvlc can play stuff for command line users though vlc which is its root is
more involved setting up.
The mpv package only needed to know which output interface to use.
