The "pain" level rising from such an implementation would surely be much more
unbearable than that felt by some users when following links to read the
content they need ;)

Just a quick clarification from work, I never showed support for installing
the cite extension, and I'm aware that it's developers, and not TUs, that
have access to the repos.

MediaWiki 1.23.0 (LTS) was released last June, and it's now at 1.23.5
[1], however the ArchWiki is still using the legacy 1.22 version, and
1.23 is being pushed to a separate "mw-1.23" branch [2]. Has the reason
for this been discussed publicly, or can it be made public in this thread?

In the month of January, 3 commits have been made to [2], two of which
are updates to MediaWiki: maybe one of them caused the issue?

I had a 50% probability of a failing boot process, which I
solved blacklisting pata_acpi in the kernel line.

se I solved by removing USB devices when booting,
not the mouse or the keyboard, but a cheap card reader and joystick adapter.
Hope this helps.

My odd bug related to xorg resetting (with no error) when pressing Enter was

Ok. I've tried the "safe" progs with expected results and no problems of any
sort (safe = the programs that don't do something radical as xfs_mdrestore).
I'm running arch i686. For me, it's all right. Hope this helps:)
